Definition of Series 6 Exam

Series 6 exam is taken by individuals who wish to sell mutual funds and variable contracts to their clients. Once a person passes the series 6 exam if the agents wishes to conduct business in variable annuity contracts, they have to pass the Life insurance exam in their state. The series 6 exam is administered by FINRA. It is 100 questions long and must be completed in two hours and 15 minutes. In order to pass the series 6 exam a score of 70% or higher is required.

Applying "Series 6 Exam" to Securities Exams:

Passing the series 6 exam qualifies an agent an investment company representative. The series 6 exam is taken by insurance agents, retail bankers, and other professionals who want to add additional products and services to their practice. The are no pre requites to taking the series 6 exam. However, a person must be sponsored by a FINRA member firm to take the series 6 exam. we recommend that a person spend at least 60 hours preparing for the exam.
