Definition of Supervise

Supervise is the action of a principal, which ensures that the actions of a firm and its representatives are in compliance with industry regulations.

Applying "Supervise" to Securities Exams:

All areas of a brokerage firm must be assigned to a designated principal to supervise the activities of the agents in each department. Each area of the firm will have a principal designated as the person in charge in the firm’s policy and procedures manual. Advertising, sales literature, trading and market making and investment banking are all activities that must be closely supervised by a qualified principal. Principal level registrations include the series 4,9,10,24,26 and 53 exams among others.
