Definition of CUSIP

CUSIP stands for Committee on Uniform Securities Identification Procedures. A committee that assigns identification numbers to securities to help identify them.

Applying "CUSIP" to Securities Exams:

All US and Canadian publicly traded securities are issued a CUSIP number to identify the security. The CUSIP numbers are used by clearing firms to assist in the settlement of transactions and to ensure that all trades clear properly.
