Series 57 Tutoring Case Study Number 1

A recent Series 57 candidate who was being appointed as a junior trader on a high volume desk at a large broker dealer had spent a significant amount of time preparing for the Series 57 exam. He had recently passed his Series 57 but had not spent a significant amount of time learning the NASDAQ work station. He was struggling with all of the different ways to execute orders and how to protect a customer limit order. He had to pass in the next two weeks, so he could begin trading at the start of the quarter.

Solution

One of our Series 57 instructors who has managed trading desks at a large prop trading firm reviewed the candidates exam results and quickly identified the problems he was having with the questions on customer order protection, ACES, ECNs and UTPs on the practice exams. Our instructor spent a total of five hours virtually tutoring this Series 57 candidate focusing on these key areas explaining the subtle distinctions relating to order handling, order execution, NASDAQ access from UTPs and ACES and fine tuning his test taking strategies. Once the training was complete the candidate was ready to pass the exam and did so the three days after the last session. He is now a trader on a high volume desk.

Series 57 Tutoring Case Study Number 2

This Series 57 test taker was looking to trade on additional leverage at the prop trading firm he had opened his account with. As an experienced trader he was successful as a swing trader, but had not used the NASDAQ system. He had taken the test once and scored 63 percent on his first attempt. Until he passed the exam his firm limited the amount of leverage that he could use in his trading.

Solution

One of our Series 57 tutors who has experience as a Compliance Officer for a large prop trading worked with the candidate .We sent him the Series 57 textbook and assigned chapter readings and chapter tests to work on prior to meeting with our Series 57 tutor. As part of his comprehensive training plan virtual reviews were scheduled to go over his chapter results and to provide the candidate with the opportunity to ask comprehensive questions. Once significant progress had been made in the assigned chapters, two four hour review sessions were then scheduled at the candidate’s location and designed to ensure that he passed his Series 57 exam. The tutoring resulted in a 15 point increase in his score. He is now trading on increased leverage.
