How many IARCE Credits do I need ?

Every IAR subject to the continuing education requirement must complete a minimum of 12 continuing education credits each year. NASAA mandates that 6 of the credits must be completed in approved ethics courses. The remaining 6 credit hours must be completed in approved products and practices courses.

Does my Regulatiory Element CE count towards my IARCE requirement if I work at a broker dealer who is also an investment adviser?

If you are subject to the FINRA regulatory element training requirements you may use the completion of the training to meet part of your IARCE requirements. In order to count the completion towards your product CE you must or your firm must report your completion to FINPRO and pay the credit reporting fee. You will still be required to complete the 6 hours of annual ethics training.

What are the IAR CE credit Reporting Requirements ?

All credit reporting must be submitted to NASAA. Agents and their firms may report qualified credits directly to FINPRO and pay the fee. Agents who complete our IARCE approved courses will have their credits reported to NASAA automatically.

Can I complete MY IARCE online ?

Absolutely.  In fact, most agents prefer on demand training programs so they can complete courses as their schedule allows. NASAA mandates the amount of time each course must be to qualify for credit. As a general rule each credit requires 50 minutes of training. Therefore, agents can expect to spend between 10 and 12 hours to qualify for all 12 credits. This is much easier to complete over the course of 1 year. It can be a daunting task If you wait until the end of the year to get started

How are my CE credits reported to NASAA and my state ?

Agents and their firms may report credits to FINPRO and pay the credit reporting fees. As a NASAA approved provider of IARCE your credits will be reported for you on your behalf.

What happens if I don’t complete my IAR CE on time?

This is definitely not a situation you want to find yourself in. Many states will not allow an agent to renew their registration without proof that the continuing education credits have been completed. This can impact your ability to function as an agent and limit your ability to speak to clients and to receive fee based compensation.

Can I carry over IARCE credits to next year ?

Unfortunately NASAA does not allow extra credits to be carried over to following years. So if an agent has received more than 12 qualifying credits in any one year, those cannot not be “banked” for the next year. NASAA only accepts the 12 required credits and the remaining credits will expire at the end of the reporting period.

Can I retake the same IARCE courses each year ?

No NASAA does not allow agents to receive credits for the same courses over and over again. Once you have completed a course you must complete new courses for the next reporting year. You must wait a minimum of one year before retaking a prior course.
