wildcatting is a term used to describe an exploratory oil- and gas-drilling program.
Applying "Wildcatting" to Securities Exams:
Drilling for oil in an area of non proven reserves is very speculative in nature and more often than not can result in a "dry hole" being drilled. Due to the speculative nature of this drilling program it has become known as wildcatting.
