SIE Exam Details

The SIE Exam is administered by FINRA and can be taken by anyone who is 18 years old or older. There is no requirement for a person to be employed by a FINRA member firm. Candidates who successfully pass the SIE exam will have four years to complete a top off exam.

The Securities Industry Essentials Exam will be comprised of 75 multiple choice questions spread over four focus areas. Those areas are as follows:

1. Knowledge of Capital Markets – 12 questions 
2. Understanding Products and Their Risks – 33 questions 
3. Understanding Trading, Customer Accounts and Prohibited Activities – 23 questions 
4. Overview of Regulatory Framework – 7 questions
